Greenbrier is introducing the GBX Training Tank Car™, a mobile classroom designed to advance tank car education. Built from a fully functional DOT-117 tank car, it travels to customers, repair facilities and industry events, bringing hands-on learning where it matters most.

Hands-On Training Where It Matters

Every inch of the car is designed for practice. On the exterior, a rooftop platform with safety railings lets crews work on all major top-fittings, while cutouts in the tank shell reveal insulation and heater coil systems. An end-of-car door opens to a full-sized classroom and railcar telematics showcase live data through GPS, impact and open hatch sensors.

Inside, the car offers a climate-controlled classroom with seating for 15, complete with racks of valves, fittings and gauging devices for practical learning. An interior roof ladder allows teams to rehearse safety inspections in real time—bridging the gap between classroom training and fieldwork.

The Training Tank Car™ educates on a variety of topics, including the indicators for required maintenance and the specific requirements for inspections. With that knowledge, stakeholders can plan for their railcars to be out of service when it is more convenient, select shops with availability and speed up the repair process by anticipating the work and parts needed.

Setting a New Standard

The GBX Training Tank Car™ complies with all tank car regulatory standards, reinforcing Greenbrier’s long-standing commitment to safety and innovation. More than a teaching tool, it’s a statement—rail safety education should be immersive, interactive and accessible.

By taking training directly to customers, facilities and industry events, Greenbrier helps the next generation of rail professionals gain practical experience, reduce downtime and bolster the industry’s already strong safety record.
